Research Reality Check
Research Reality Check is a checklist for evaluating a new research idea before starting a project. It helps you examine the problem definition, novelty, feasibility, evaluation plan, related work, and likely reviewer criticisms before turning a vague idea into a paper-ready project.
Research Reality Check는 새 연구 아이디어를 시작하기 전에 문제 정의, novelty, 실행 가능성, 평가 계획, 관련 연구, 예상되는 약점을 차례로 점검하는 연구 아이디어 체크리스트입니다. 막연한 아이디어를 논문으로 발전시키기 전에 리뷰어 관점에서 약한 부분을 미리 찾는 데 목적이 있습니다.

The original checklist is “矢谷流研究アイデアチェックリスト / Research Reality Check” from Prof. Koji Yatani's IIS Lab at the University of Tokyo. Prof. JeongGil Ko's Research Reality Check page introduces the same material as a checklist used when starting a new research project.
I reorganized the material into editable Word worksheets so it can be used directly in student meetings, lab discussions, and advisor meetings. The files are structured for quick 10-minute checks, deeper 30-minute discussions, and paper-readiness reviews before writing a draft.
How To Use
- Version A: Use this for a 10-minute check when the idea is still rough. It quickly surfaces weak problem statements, novelty gaps, and missing evaluation plans.
- Version B: Use this before advisor meetings or lab discussions to clarify implementation plans, baselines, competitors, and experimental conditions.
- Version C: Use this before writing a paper draft, thesis chapter, or proposal to identify where reviewers are likely to attack first.
